This is our straw bale house – one space with a stoep all along the front. It faces exactly south with private aspect over meadows to hillsides. It is designed to be really warm and comfortable. Inside there is a single space with a perfect little kitchen at one end and the sleeping area behind an oak lath screen at the other end. There is a proper shower room with lovely hot water.

We have built this ourselves including the larch round-wood frame and lime-hemp-hair render. It is naturally cosy, of course, with the straw bale walls and sheep wool in the roof – doubly so with underfloor heating and a small woodburner.

Energy comes from our wind turbine and an innovative small evaporator plate heat pump – and it works!

  • Deposit: £100.00
  • Included in the price is heating, electricity, bed linen, duvets, pillows, towels, and an initial supply of logs, tea, coffee, milk, sugar, lavatory paper and soaps.
  • Wi-fi is provided; mobile phone signals are weak.
  • Children: note there are natural hazards including ponds and free-range geese.
  • Pets are not allowed.
  • Breakfast basket: £8.00 per person
  • Dinner on arrival: £30.00 for two
